Now is the perfect time to start planning the first month of 2017! Your AGA has an exciting lineup of weekly drop-in activities, registered classes, after work pop-up live music, film nights, artist talks and more. This January, we open our newest exhibition: Survival Guide. Featuring photographic, print, sculpture, video and performance artworks, Survival Guide examines strategies for survival within a contemporary art context. In conjunction with the exhibition we are organizing special programming and education classes.

From snow covered mountains to vast prairie skies, Canadian winters are altogether iconic and familiar. The AGA’s newest exhibition, Season to Season, Coast to Coast: A Celebration of the Canadian Landscape, features the nation’s terrain in each of the seasons and all of their colours.

As a registered charity, the AGA obtains some of its operating revenue from AGLC casinos. Casino funding helps support programming, exhibitions and education classes for Albertans.

We know that the holiday season is busy and the month wraps up quickly! But not so fast… at the AGA, we continue to bring you exciting programming events and inspiring education classes this December. Take part in Art for Lunch, where you will learn about Canadian landscape paintings from the AGA collection. Bring the family to the Gallery for innovative experiments with charcoal, ink and paint on our next All Day Sunday.

The Art Gallery of Alberta is getting ready for the opening of two new exhibitions on December 3: Season to Season, Coast to Coast: A Celebration of the Canadian Landscape and Hannah Doerksen: A Story We Tell Ourselves. Everyone is invited to our exhibitions opening on Friday, December 2 at 7:30pm!

November will have you drawing, learning and grooving at your AGA. Upcoming this month we are hosting a drawing night at Zinc, a film screening, pop-up live music and more. We also have a selection of engaging and creative Education classes for kids, youth and adults.

  Written by Lynda Vang Inspiration strikes at any moment, and it is hard not to feel inspired while viewing Beauty’s Awakening: Drawings by the Pre-Raphaelites and Their Contemporaries from the Lanigan Collection, an exhibition featuring more than 120 drawings by the Pre-Raphaelites and their contemporaries.

  Written by Lynda Vang Edmonton based artist Brenda Draney has been shortlisted as a finalist for the 2016 Sobey Art Award–Canada’s prestigious contemporary art prize given to Canadian artists 40 and under. Originally from Sawridge First Nation, Brenda draws inspiration from her relationship between the two communities she calls home, Edmonton and Slave Lake.
