FAQ

About Private Tours

Why book a tour?

A Private Tour will enhance your experience at the gallery by providing unique insights and a rich understanding of an exhibition. Our knowledgeable and trained Art Educators will support your experience through informed conversation, prepared tour stops showcasing key artworks and engaging in-gallery activities. Private Tours are prepared for all main exhibitions to highlight key concepts and deliver essential information about the art and featured artists.

We welcome everyone and can accommodate different occasions and audiences. All you need to be is curious and open-minded!

We have welcomed groups ranging from wedding parties, bachelor parties, gatherings of family and friends, alumni events, corporate events, university and college classes, seniors’ and community groups, et cetera.

Can Private Tours be customized to my group’s interest?

Yes! Our Art Educators are trained on the content for each exhibition and we love to cater our tours to your group’s interest. It is helpful to have some information about the group/individual(s) attending the tour to ensure we know our audience and so the Art Educator can prepare accordingly.

I want to know more about the building and its architecture!

Interested in the story behind the AGA’s unique building? We offer a 30-minute Architecture Spotlight Tour that can be booked with another exhibition of your choice as part of a Spotlight Tours package.

Do Private Tours include additional activities, outside of the standard tour provided?

Exhibitions at the AGA often include in-gallery activities designed to engage visitors with the content or themes surrounding the exhibitions. We are happy to incorporate these activities within your tour. Please enquire about the availability of these activities when booking your Private Tour.

What is the maximum number of participants for a Private Tour?

To ensure an enjoyable experience for all guests, the maximum capacity for private tours is 20 people per tour.

Larger groups can be accommodated by booking a Spotlight Tour package (includes two half hour tours) and dividing the group into two consecutive tours.

It is also possible to divide a large group into two simultaneous tours by booking a second Art Educator for an additional $100.

How long do guests have access to the exhibition(s) during Private Tours?

Private Tours run for a duration of one hour.

During Regular Gallery Hours, Admission to the galleries is included in your booking and allows you to discover all our current exhibitions.

Outside Regular hours, we open the exhibition of your choice only for your Private Tour. Once the tour is complete, the exhibitions will close. If you would like to extend access to the exhibition spaces, we encourage you to book Exhibition Access as well as a Private Tour during your event.

What details must be provided in order to confirm my Private Tour booking?

In order to confirm your Private Tour booking, we require the following information: preferred date, time, exact number of guests, choice of exhibition(s) and tour format.

It is also helpful to have some information about the group/individual(s) attending the tour to ensure we know our audience and so the Art Educator can prepare accordingly.

When can I expect to hear back from the AGA regarding my Private Tour enquiry?

Our team will respond to your enquiry within two business days.

How far in advance must I enquire about Private Tour bookings?

If you are interested in a Private Tour, we ask that you contact education@youraga at least two weeks prior to the date of the intended booking. The details of your Private Tour must be confirmed no later than five business days prior to date of the intended booking. This allows us to ensure an Art Educator is available to lead your Private Tour.

Booking cancelled within less than two business days will be charged a cancellation fee of $75 per tour.

What hours of the day are available for Private Tours?

During Regular Hours you are able to book a Private Tour at the AGA as early as 11am, and as late as 4pm.

Please note that Private Tours booked Outside Regular Hours are subject to a different fee schedule. View our tour fee schedule for rates and booking options.

Do all members of the group need to be seniors/students/AGA members in order to receive the senior/student/AGA member discount?

No, only the individual booking the Private tour needs to be either a senior/student/or AGA member.

If I am booking a Private Tour over the phone or email, how do I prove that I am a Senior/Student/ AGA member?
