Cindy Barratt

For many years, Barratt primarily worked in watercolour or acrylic, with the focus of capturing flowers, striving to capture their beauty, their “souls” and personalities. From time to time she still returns to her “floral roots”.

Eva Bartel

After 25 years practicing architecture, Eva Bartel focused on painting the landscape in watercolour. Many of her paintings are made during, or inspired by, her trips in a motor home/studio. Her work seeks clarity and sense of distance. She wants the viewer to feel a similar sense of perspective and freedom as she has when she travels and paints.

Eva Bartel is an elected member of the Canadian Society of Painters in Water Colour.  Recently her work has been featured in two British books:  Painting in Watercolour, The Indispensable Guide, Brian Webb, 2016 and The Encyclopedia of Watercolour Techniques, Hazel Harrison, 2017.

Pierre Bataillard

Born and educated in Switzerland, Pierre Bataillard emigrated to Canada in 1967 and now resides in the Bonnyville area.
Originally trained as a draughtsman, he has become a self-taught painter, and considers himself a ''seasonal artist'', as he takes inspiration from the local landscape in the summer, then switches to still-lifes in the wintertime.
Stemming from his training as a draughtsman, he has a love for the line, which is almost always present in his work, applied in a gestural manner. Bataillard works exclusively on paper.
Having shown across Alberta, Bataillard prefers to exhibit in public galleries, which he has done regularly since the early 1980's. His work can be found in many private collections, as well as The Alberta Foundation for the Arts.

Madeleine Bellmond

Whether she is drawing inspiration from her home province of Alberta or across the breadth of Canada, Madeleine Bellmond’s choice of mediums is almost as varied as her subject matter. During a lifetime of experimentation and expansion of her artistic limits, Bellmond has worked in oils, watercolour, gouache and acrylics, as well as winning numerous awards for her unique fabric creations. One point that remains constant, however, is Bellmond’s desire to illicit a happy and positive response from her viewers.

Paul Braid

Paul Braid (1920-1999) painted landscapes, life and portraits for over 65 years, from the age of 13 to his passing in December 1999. After studying under Franklin Carmichael (of Group of Seven fame), Paul graduated from the Ontario College of Art in 1947, and came west in 1953. Paul did not limit his exploration and experimentation, painting in a variety of different styles and mediums. He also taught throughout the province for the University of Alberta Faculty of Extension, and pursued his art career full time until October 1999.

Paul's love of history and nature are evident throughout his work. Concentrating on painting scenes of Alberta's splendour and heritage, Paul's work has captured the essence of the natural beauty that is found in Alberta's mountains and homesteads.

Paul had 22 paintings on tour with the Art Gallery of Alberta's Travelling Exhibition Program (Alberta Foundation for the Arts). These paintings were on tour until 2005. Paul's work is also found in art collections, both public and private, around the world.

Hendrik Bres

Hendrik Bres was born in 1932 in the Hague in the Netherlands. Primarily a self-taught artist, he has attended drawing and printmaking classes at the Extension Department of the University of Alberta. Through the use of subtle colour, Bres achieves a wide variety of moods within the limits of similar kinds of landscapes. Although his landscapes are not all derived from particular locations, they nevertheless evoke Albertan scenes. By not restricting himself to specific places, he allows his imagination free play to combine landscape detail, light and space, achieving a description which is both convincing and intriguing.
