Community Tour of Inheritance with Dawn Carter

Join us for the April edition of our Community Tour Series which invites a new speaker each month to lead a tour of a current exhibition, giving our audience a unique perspective on the artwork on display. This month we are thrilled to welcome Dawn Carter to lead a tour of the exhibition Inheritance featuring work by Deanna Bowen, Steven Nunoda, and Adrian Stimson. This tour is happening during our monthly free night at the AGA, which happens the last Thursday of the month from 4-7pm. 

The exhibition Inheritance forefronts historical facts that are often hidden or untold because they reveal that our shared past includes, and is based on, acts and systems of brutality, racism and oppression. Told by artists through research into the lives of family members and familial connections, the works in Inheritance demonstrate that history continues to reverberate through time, impacting the present and future. 

You can participate in this free hour-long program both in-person and online by watching our Zoom livestream. Registration is required for guests attending in person; due to the space limitations registration is limited. The livestream of the artist talk is free and will require advance registration as well.  

This exhibition is organized by the Art Gallery of Alberta and curated by Catherine Crowston and Lindsey Sharman. Inheritance is presented by Capital Powered Art, an exhibition series sponsored by the Capital Power Corporation.

About Dawn Carter

Dawn Carter is a writer, educator, performance poet, community connector, entrepreneur, and 2SLGBTQ* activist with Caribbean heritage. She emigrated with her family from racialized civil unrest in early 1970’s England. They lived in rural Alberta before settling in Edmonton where they are still based.
