This month we are partnering with the Visual Arts Student Association (VASA) at the University of Alberta. These fine arts students will lead a tour of BEHOLD|EN, an exhibition featuring our recent art acquisitions.
This tour is happening during our monthly free night at the AGA, which happens the last Thursday of the month from 4-7pm.
You can participate in this FREE hour-long program in-person, registration is recommended. While you are here, don't forget to check out our shopAGA and Art Sales and Rental: You may find something that delights you.
About VASA
VASA, The Visual Arts Student Association, is a student group at the University of Alberta managed and run by students in the Bachelor of Fine Arts program. It was first established as a means to raise funds for the Bachelor of Fine Arts Graduation Exhibitions, but has since evolved to also include other exhibitions and community events. Its current mandate is to advocate for students in the Bachelor of Fine Arts program and to create opportunities through which the research they undertake in their studios can be brought forward to the community. VASA strives to promote the visual arts within the university and the greater Edmonton community.
About BEHOLD|EN
The AGA’s permanent collection began in 1925, with the founding of the Edmonton Museum of Arts by a group of local art enthusiasts and collectors. Since that time, the collection has grown to over 6,300 works of art acquired over the decades through donations from private and corporate collectors, artists, special bequests, along with directed purchases from living artists supported by endowed funds and specially allocated grant sources.
These additions to the AGA’s collection are illustrative of the diversity of works that we have been able to acquire, and for which we are beholden to many donors and funders. Building a collection is central to our core mission and mandate, allowing for the preservation and exhibition of artworks that are of unique value to our ever-changing social and cultural history, both for today’s and future visitors.
BEHOLD|EN: New Acquisitions to the AGA Collection is organized by the Art Gallery of Alberta, curated by Catherine Crowston and presented by the Poole Centre of Design.
