Film Night | Spotlight on Art and Fashion – McQueen and The First Monday in May

Join us on for a special art x fashion edition of Film Night on November 9. We are showing two films that celebrate the art of fashion: McQueen, exploring the life and designs of celebrated English designer Alexander McQueen, and The First Monday in May, documenting about the creation of the 2016 Met Gala and the textile exhibition it celebrates.

Watch both films for $15 or either film for $10. This screening is presented as part of programming for Second Skin.

6pm | McQueen (2018) – 111 Minutes

The documentary is based on the life and career of British fashion designer Alexander McQueen and follows his life from his start as a tailor to his career as a leader fashion and design.

8pm | The First Monday in May (2016) – 90 Minutes

This film follows the creation of The Metropolitan Museum of Art's most attended fashion exhibition in history, "China: Through The Looking Glass," an exploration of Chinese-inspired Western fashions by Costume Institute curator Andrew Bolton.

The works in this exhibition trace the boundaries of the body and reference garments and adornment in many forms. These literal and symbolic objects of attire allow their ‘wearer’ to explore a myriad of issues including identity and representation; objectification and empowerment; mythology and history; imagined futures and the afterlife.

This exhibition is organized by the Art Gallery of Alberta, curated by Lindsey Sharman and Danielle Siemens and presented by TD Ready Commitment.
