Anime Night at the AGA : The Boy and the Beast  バケモノの子 and Mirai 未来のミライ, by Mamoru Hosoda

The Boy and the Beast バケモノの子7pm (2 hours)
Mirai 未来のミライ5:15pm (1.5 hours)

Join us on May 12 for a night of anime featuring two films by Japanese director Mamoru Hosoda: The Boy and the Beast (Japanese:  バケモノの子) and Mirai of the Future (Japanese: 未来のミライ).

In both films, Hosoda stretches the boundaries of style and tells heartwarming stories about family, change and acceptance. The Boy and the Beast is an uplifting story about a young boy’s journey into adulthood, learning about family, relationships and responsibilities. Mirai of the Future dives into the innermost thoughts of a toddler, depicting his feeling of displacement and, later, acceptance toward the arrival of his baby sister.

Mamoru Hosoda is an award-winning filmmaker and animator. His latest film, Belle, was nominated for Best Animated Feature for the 2019 Oscars.

Enjoy each film at $10 or both at $15. The evening will start at 5:15pm screening first Mirai of the Future and at 7p.m. The Boy and the Beast. Both films will be in Japanese with English subtitles.

Anime Night is part of the AGA’s programming for celebrating Asian Heritage Month. If you love animation or are curious about whimsical stories that celebrate families, this is a night not to be missed!

About Film Night: Film Night is part of AGA’s public programming that highlights themes from current exhibitions or social and cultural affairs. Join us on the second Thursday of each month for a screening of film that may be missed on the big screen.
