Join us for a workshop inspired by the history of weaving as a form of language. Kim McCollum will lead you through creating your own basic loom and weaving from cardboard and scrap materials. Start with a cardboard box and some yarn scraps and end up with a personal weaving that you can hang on the wall, use as a mug rug or give as a gift. While learning weaving basics Kim will encourage the group to consider: What ways can language become physically tangible? How can language be touched, felt, handled? How do these physical forms influence the transmission of meaning?
The Weaving Language is a free workshop part of the Art Gallery of Alberta’s public program for the exhibition The Scene, which features emerging and mid-career Edmonton-based artists.
