#AGAlive | Community Tour of Maud Lewis with the Visual Arts Student Association

Join us for the March edition of our Community Tour Series which invites a new speaker each month to lead a tour of a current exhibition, giving our audience a unique perspective on the artwork on display. This month we are thrilled to welcome a group of art students from the Visual Arts Student Association (VASA) at the University of Alberta to lead a tour of the exhibition Maud Lewis. This group will offer you insight into the exhibition from the perspective of the next generation of artists. This tour is part of our Monthly FREE Night at the gallery which is the last Thursday of the month from 4-7pm.

About the exhibition

One of Canada’s most beloved folk artists, Maud Lewis (1903–1970) was famous in her lifetime for her brightly coloured and endearing paintings of rural Nova Scotia. Working from her cabin on the side of the highway in Marshalltown, in Digby County, she produced hundreds of small works that captured aspects of country life that were rapidly changing. The exhibition Maud Lewis runs from Feb 19th to May 29th at the AGA

About VASA

VASA, The Visual Arts Students Association, is a student group at the University of Alberta managed and run by students in the Bachelor of Fine Arts program. It was first established as a means to raise funds for the Bachelor of Fine Arts Graduation Exhibitions but has since evolved to also include other exhibitions and community events. Its current mandate is to advocate for students in the Bachelor of Fine Arts program and to create opportunities through which the research they undertake in their studios can be brought forward to the community. 

You can participate in this free hour-long program both in-person and online through watching our Zoom livestream. Registration is required for guests attending in person and online; due to the space limitations registration is limited.
