We also acknowledge the many Indigenous, Inuit and Métis people who make Alberta their home today.

Got Yarn?

#agaNests

Got yarn? Give us a hand!

In the spirit of communal making, we are offering a hands-on activity in Nests for the End of the World that relies on visitor participation. Spare yarn donations are needed as part of this project.

Inspired by Luanne Martineau's sculpture, Knitter Woman, visitors can use their bare hands to hand-knit a soft, plush strip of yarn, which will eventually be stitched together with everyone’s handiwork to create colourful and cozy patchwork baby blankets that will be donated to the Terra Centre for Teen Parents, an Edmonton based non-profit organization that supports pregnant and parenting teens in developing the self-reliance and skills to be successful parents. As part of this activity, the AGA is accepting donations of:

•    yarn in sizes 0 and 1 (also called fingering/sock/sport/baby yarn)
•    chunky and super bulky yarn sizes 6 and above

Donations are gratefully accepted at AGA Guest Services until May 1, 2020.

Luanne Martineau is an Associate Professor of Painting and Drawing at Concordia University, whose research practice explores the social stratification of artistic production and the “naturalized” fissures between art genres, engaging a long tradition of satire and critique within contemporary art.
