The Art Gallery of Alberta is pleased to congratulate Duane Linklater, as he is set to receive a University of Alberta Alumni Horizon Award for his contributions to art and culture. The Alumni Horizon Award recognizes the outstanding achievements of University of Alberta alumni early in their careers. Duane Linklater is a graduate of the University of Alberta, ’03 BA (Native Studies) and ’05 BFA. Since graduating from the University of Alberta, Duane Linklater has achieved international acclaim for his innovative and thought-provoking work.

Visit the NGC with an AGA membership

The National Gallery of Canada held its annual public meeting at the Art Gallery of Alberta last night and announced a new component to the ongoing partnership between the AGA and the NGC.

This fall explore the commonalities and intersections of renowned works from Damian Moppett and Ron Moppett in their first joint exhibition. Discover Canada’s first and foremost abstract artists with avant-garde works from the AGA collection.

Written by Lynda Vang On Tuesday, August 23 the Art Gallery of Alberta welcomed artists, Damian Moppett and Ron Moppett as the two artists installed their works in the AGA Atrium and Manning Hall, ahead of their exhibition, Damian Moppett + Ron Moppett (Every Story Has Two Sides) running from September 17- January 8, 2017 at your AGA. Damian Moppett’s mobile, Broken Fall, hangs from the ceiling in the atrium – marking the first time a work of art has been suspended in the atrium.

A single drop of water may be tiny, but add it to others and together they become a flowing river. Making a donation to the AGA has a similar effect. Individual contributions combine to become a significant source of funding for the AGA. The Art Gallery of Alberta could not continue to operate without the support of our donors and members, and in 2015, the Fund Development team worked to facilitate their support. Individual donors continued to take the opportunity to make financial gifts to support and sustain the Art Gallery of Alberta.

  We had an incredible Canada Day at the AGA on July 1, 2016. The weather was gorgeous and downtown Edmonton was teeming with people excited to explore the Art Gallery of Alberta inside and out, and take advantage of the free admission all day long. In total, we saw 6514 people walk through our doors to explore AGA exhibitions. AWith 6 different exhibitions on view, the AGA provided visitors with the opportunity to see historical and contemporary works by local, Canadian and international artists.

“Do you mean we can explore the gallery on our own?”

This is not the first time a teen has asked this question. One of many who came out to SWARM: Teens Take over your AGA, this young girl was nervous and excited to have the freedom to explore what she saw as an adult space, unsupervised. SWARM is a "parent-free" evening where teens ages 13-17 hang out with their peers, develop new relationships, discover the gallery, and engage in programming designed just for them.
