Mabel Anabelle Tan 陈新颖 is an installation artist who works primarily with clay. After graduating from Singapore School of the Arts, she went to pursue her studies in Ceramics at the Alberta University of the Arts in Calgary. Mabel has since held many public exhibitions and residencies in Singapore and all across Alberta, such as Objectifs Gallery (Singapore) and Medalta (Medicine Hat). Humour, play and now pain continues to excite her creative investigations. When not in the studio making, she is either teaching, digging or working on the next home renovation project.
The Art Gallery of Alberta respectfully acknowledges that we are located in Treaty 6 Territory and Region 4 of the Metis Nation of Alberta. We respect this as the traditional and contemporary land of diverse Indigenous Peoples including the Plains Cree, Woodland Cree, Beaver Cree, Nitsitapi/Blackfoot, Métis, Nakota Sioux, Anishinaabe/Saulteaux/Ojibwe and Dene Peoples. We also acknowledge the many Indigenous, Inuit and Métis people who make Alberta their home today.
