Kimberly Smith

ST. ALBERT, AB  |  Kimberly has been creating and teaching art for over 30 years. She has worked in many mediums including ceramics, sculpture, watercolor, oil and acrylics. About 18 years ago, Kimberly discovered fused glass and very quickly found her home in this medium. Pulling on her skill as a painter she has developed techniques for using enamels on glass. Her work ranges from abstract to representational and she is inspired by the beautiful prairies and Rocky Mountains near her home in St. Albert.

Meet the Artist

"All of my art reflects the journey through trauma, depression and anxiety. Working from broken glass or building in layers is a process that mirrors the journey of restoring ones life from the brokenness of trauma. The lived experience of depression and anxiety that are hidden from view in the layers of everyday living.

I use my art as an expression of my experiences and as a statement of the strength we gain through adversity. Regardless of the challenges we face I believe that, by choosing to seek out moments meaning and purpose, we write our own story. It is my hope that this message shines through my creations. I have been creating and teaching art for over 30 years. I have worked in many mediums including ceramics, sculpture, watercolor, oil, and acrylics. I am passionate about learning and have studied different art forms with instructors and schools across Canada and the United States.

I started working in Kiln fired art glass 18 years ago and it is in this medium that I have found a home. I have had the opportunity to study kiln fired art glass with accomplished glass artists including James Lavoie, Leslie Rowe-Israelson and Tim Carey. I have been inspired by their vision and expression.

My passion for learning inspired me to develop a traveling teaching studio that focuses on sharing my love of creating with younger generations. Through this studio, I work with kindergarten to grade twelve students in the comfort of their classrooms. My unique approach and absolute confidence in every child’s ability to express their creative soul has made my teaching studio, Creative Adventures Caravan, one of the most sought-after programs in the greater Edmonton area."
