Kari Woo

CANMORE, AB  |  In 1993 while recovering from a serious snowboarding injury Kari spontaneously enrolled in a beginner jewellery class and has been making jewellery ever since. In 2003 she obtained her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree [Honors] at the Alberta University for the Arts and since then has built a successful professional practice as a business owner and artist.  Her jewellery designs have been distributed widely across North America through independent galleries and boutiques, online and tradeshows.

The quintessential mission of her design process is the create jewellery that can be worn all day, everyday. Her collections are based on continuous line drawings, minimalist aesthetics and are inspired by patterns in nature and architectural details that have been distilled down to the essentials. Structural with a dash of imperfection is the philosophy at the heart of her design approach. The aim is to provide meaningful and essential objects that will make you feel grounded, beautiful and ready.

Adjacent to her jewellery business she is active as a mixed media artist where she is able to explore her curiosity around the intersection of various materials and ideas. Her mixed media work has exhibited nationally and internationally. She’s also been published in magazines, books and online for various projects.

Kari believes in the power of art and the act of making to transform lives and communities. To that end she instructs classes, mentors emerging artists and volunteers regularly with arts organizations that support artistic practices and the growth of creative culture. Her sense of what lies ahead of her artistically involves a deeper level of community engagement and redefining the role of creativity in building community.
