The Art Gallery of Alberta respectfully acknowledges that we are located in Treaty 6 Territory and Region 4 of the Metis Nation of Alberta. We respect this as the traditional and contemporary  land of diverse Indigenous Peoples including the Plains Cree, Woodland Cree, Beaver Cree, Nitsitapi/Blackfoot, Métis, Nakota Sioux, Anishinaabe/Saulteaux/Ojibwe and Dene Peoples. We also acknowledge the many Indigenous, Inuit and Métis people who make Alberta their home today.

Hélène Giguère

EDMONTON, AB  |  Reviewing the textile crafts of her youth, Hélène has taken up weaving with the Cercle des fermieres of her hometown, Sainte-Aurelie, Quebec, in 2016. Now living in Edmonton, she continues to work and study with other weaving guilds and individuals. A member of Edmonton's Weavers's Guild, she leads the Rigid Heddle Loom Study Group. She has also started her Master Weaver Program at Olds College in Alberta. Returning to her home guild every year to weave queen size "catalognes" on the 100" wide loom, she helps in any way - dressing up the community looms with 80 to 100 yards of material, and exchanging tips and tricks, among other things. In the coming year, Hélène plans to impart knowledge to two of her nieces and their daughters.

Hélène's handwoven products, which she sells through her small business HeleneG Arts & Crafts are original, unique and one-of-a-kind. You can find a variety of Helene's products at ShopAGA.
