Farihah Aliyah Shah is a contemporary lens-based artist living in Toronto, Canada. Through her interdisciplinary practice, Shah explores the notion of “home” through an investigation of racial identity, cultural hybridity, personal and collective memory, and constructed and natural landscapes. She is interested in how the colonial gaze continues to have an impact on her and other postcolonial bodies’ identity formation, and actively strives to use her platform as an artist to be a catalyst for positive social change. Farihah Aliyah Shah holds a BFA in Photography from OCAD University, Toronto, and has exhibited in galleries in Finland, Germany, Scotland, South Korea, and Canada.
