Bright and colourful recycled skateboards become fashion accessories

When you are looking for pieces to add to your jewelry collection or to give as a gift, you want something that stands out. Come by Shop AGA to check out our extensive selection, including Skate Betty, a new line we just brought in to celebrate our Boarder X exhibition.

Environmentally friendly and recycled products are trending these days, and it's incredible to see how talented designers can transform old treasures from days gone by.

One of our favourite eco-friendly brands is SkateBetty. The mission of this company is to create jewelry out of old and donated skateboards and a portion of proceeds are given to local music festivals, art galleries and youth skateboarding programs. We love SkateBetty here at Shop AGA because their designs blend art and sustainability, which gives each piece its own unique persona.

Early beginnings

SkateBetty is owned and operated by Sheena Crookes from Winnipeg, Manitoba. She introduced to skateboarding through her father at the age of seven years old. Crookes kept up the hobby; becoming more involved in the Canadian skateboard community. Years later, she became the manager of a skate shop and was able to accumulate a large collection of boards.

In 2009, she started creating trinkets from pieces of old skateboards and began giving it to friends and staff as gifts. Thanks to the encouragement and support from her community, she began promoting and selling her products to boutiques, shops and galleries just a year later.
