Fuel your creativity this spring! At the Art Gallery of Alberta, we provide you with enriching programming and education classes that invite you to look closely at art, take on interactive activities in the galleries, watch films, explore exhibitions and learn together.

This March and April, your AGA invites you to enjoy a series of after-work pop-up live music shows, ArtBreak Camps, weekly art activities and more.

Summer ArtBreak Camps

Registration is now open for our summer education camps!
ArtBreak day camps run throughout July and August and are designed to connect students 6-12 with art and ideas. Camps are five days unless otherwise specified.

 

July 4-7 | Canadian Art Legends (4 days)
Students ages 6-8
Students ages 9-12 

Learn about the lives and times of some of Canada’s most famous artists including Emily Carr and Tom Thomson as well as featured artists Marion Nicoll and Alex Janvier.

 

July 10-14 | Horse Camp
Students ages 8-13 

Draw, paint and sculpt horses in the studio before heading to the stables to ride in this perennial favourite ArtBreak Camp!

 

July 17-21 | Art Zoo
Students ages 6-8
Students ages 9-12

Work both in the studio and on site at the Edmonton Valley Zoo to discover the art of animals. Work in 2-D and 3-D to learn drawing, painting and sculpting techniques while learning more about the animal world.

 

July 24-28| Art Makers
Students ages 6-8
Students ages 9-12

Join us in our own makerlab to experiment with art materials, investigate art technologies and solve art & design challenges.

 

July 31 – August 4 | Shutterbug Club
Students ages 6-8
Students ages 9-12

Investigate dramatic lighting, interesting compositions, and fun digital photography techniques with this camp.

 

August 8-11 | Art Journaling (4 days)
Students ages 6-8
Students ages 9-12

Experiment with mixed media and turn an ordinary book into a work of art. Visit the gallery for inspiration and document what you see, record the world around you or capture your thoughts on a page.

 

August 14-18 | Creative Collaborations

What is Art? If you replied visual art, dance, theatre and music, this camp is for you! In this energetic ArtBreak camp, explore the connections between the arts as you crisscross creative boundaries.

 

August 21-25 | Animation Camp
Students ages 6-8
Students ages 9-12

Learn the ins and outs of animation in this dynamic ArtBreak Camp. Meet with guest artists and professional illustrators to create a series of animated projects that explore art in motion.

 

July 17-21 | For the Time Being
Students ages 13-17

Visit For the Time Being, this year’s edition of the Alberta Biennial of Contemporary Art, and explore what motivates local artists. Back in the studio, push your own boundaries while developing new skills.

 

August 14-18 | Portfolio Prep
Students ages 13-17

Ever dreamed of being an artist? We can help! Not only do we know a lot of artists, but we know what it takes to be one. Learn what art schools and galleries are looking for in a portfolio and work on projects guaranteed to stand out.
