Renee Peevey was born in Meadowlake, Saskatchewan. In 1961, she was adopted in Edmonton and became the youngest of 11 children. Her father was a plant Manager at Canada Packers. Renee only started working at Gainers in February 1986, but while listening to the workers she became very interested in the cause and the necessity of unionizing to set standards for education, wages, working conditions and the quality of life for workers.
Renee toured Canada’s provinces on behalf of the UFCW (United Food and Commercial Workers) to connect with other local unions. She was privileged to speak with the Executive of the Canada Labour Congress, and at the International women’s Convention, the Saskatchewan Federation of Labour Convention and the Ontario Federation of Labour Convention. She is union proud and an active member of the Staff Association Executive at MacEwan University since 2006, when they received the union certification.
She currently volunteers with Edmonton Rock and Roll Society, a not-for-profit society dedicated to keeping children off the street through music at the C.A.M. (Centre for Arts and music).
