Cindy Barratt was born and raised in Spruce Grove, Alberta, and currently lives and works in nearby Stony Plain. She is a self-taught professional artist, having been interested in art since childhood, and decided in 1991 to pursue it as a full-time career. For many years, Barratt primarily worked in watercolour or acrylic, with the focus of capturing flowers, striving to capture their beauty, their “souls” and personalities. From time to time she still returns to her “floral roots”. In recent years Barratt has broadened her scope of work to include landscapes and the flora and fauna of various conservation and natural areas, in the hopes that she can foster education and appreciation for these areas and promote the importance of conserving and protecting natural areas, habitats and the species that inhabit them.
