Alexis J & Larissa Beringer

EDMONTON, AB  |  With a practice that spans over three decades and is continuously evolving and building upon an embodied knowledge of painting, Alexis' work as a painter engages with the traditions of abstract expressionism and abstract landscape painting through the integration of colour harmony, movement and spontaneity onto raw linen grounds. Alexis' imagery comes from seeing and sensing her environment and from the perception of landscape and place. She is interested in exploring the aura of place through color while "retaining the authentic original' as described by Walter Benjamin. Working with linen surfaces and water media, she is able to embrace the immediacy of painting. Her current work integrates hand-dyed cloth fragments and hand stitching into her paintings.

Alexis holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of Alberta and has been exhibiting her work in group and solo shows across the west coast of Canada. Also a dedicated painting instructor for over 20 years at several art schools and art spaces on Vancouver Island, her work is found in multiple private and permenent public collections across Canada and the United States. Alexis currently resides in Victoria, BC.
