Faye HeavyShield: In Conversation

As part of ongoing community outreach and in-gallery interpretive initiatives, the Art Gallery of Alberta is producing a podcast series titled In Conversation. This podcast is designed to complement the content of AGA exhibitions by providing listeners with interviews from exhibiting AGA artists and other creative professionals. The AGA’s in-gallery interpretive activities have been enthusiastically received and In Conversation will continue to capture the public’s interest by offering engaging original content on publicly-available podcast platforms. The podcast enhances the gallery experience by expanding upon an exhibition’s themes, providing listeners with information directly from the artist. Episodes of the podcast series will be produced in conjunction with the opening of new exhibitions with the inaugural episode published in conjunction with the opening of Faye HeavyShield: Calling Stones (Conversations) at the end of October 2017.

The first episode of In Conversation features an exclusive interview with the artist Faye HeavyShield concerning the process of creating her new exhibition Calling Stones (Conversations). HeavyShield reflects on the impact that her family and community had upon her, when responding to the site of the Majorville medicine wheel. HeavyShield also describes how oral histories and concepts of time are woven into the works that she produced for this exhibition. The podcast is intended for those interested in the exhibition or for those who want to enhance their gallery experience by hearing from the artist directly. The podcast will be available in the gallery, on the AGA website and on iTunes and SoundCloud.
