Call for expressions of interest: Alberta Biennial of Contemporary Art

Thank you for your interest. This call is now closed.

Are you a programmer, curator, consultant, community organizer, cultural collective and/or artistic visionary interested in creating the next Alberta Biennial of Contemporary Art?

Since 1996, the Alberta Biennial exhibition has been featuring and promoting Alberta art and artists. The next Alberta Biennial will take place in fall 2024, as part of the Art Gallery of Alberta’s (AGA) 100th anniversary year.

This summer, the AGA conducted a public, online survey about the past and future of the Alberta Biennial. We heard that people continue to be in support of the exhibition. They appreciate focus on Alberta artists and look forward to seeing new and emergent works and artists. As well, they also expressed a desire for an open and inclusive curatorial process.

The AGA is now seeking expressions of interest from those wanting to conceptualize and coordinate the 2024 exhibition of Alberta artists. The successful individual(s) will work closely and collaboratively with the AGA curatorial team, and will select the artists and works to realize the exhibition, with the support of the AGA.

Who: This call is open to individuals or groups of people in Alberta who are excited about showcasing new art in this province.

How: Respond to the call by doing the following:

  1. Introduce yourself or your group and state why you would be a good fit for the project in a one-page written pdf OR a 3-minute video OR a 3-minute audio file.
  2. Submit a statement in an additional one-page written pdf OR a 3-minute video OR a 3-minute audio file describing how you would imagine the 2024 Alberta Biennial.

When: Please submit before 5 pm on Tuesday, January 31, 2023.
