EDMONTON, AB | Born, raised and educated in Alberta, James' post-secondary field of study was Zoology. Though he has no formal training, he has always had an outlet for creativity in the visual arts.
As a young adult, working in clay helped to develop a sense of shape, proportion, and basic design in 3 dimensions. By the mid 1970s, his experience with stained glass had taught him alot about composition with colour, texture and density and the interplay of all these with light. James has alwo worked with glass-blowing and most recently, concrete.
James' art has always emphasized a high degree of design simplicity. He is unmoved by work that combines too many techniques, materials, textures, and colours - pieces that are complex for complexities sake.
