Here ‘the world of’ DaveandJenn is presented as a never-ending, always developing mythological tableaux vivant of two figurative sculptures in dialogue with a salon-style constellation of paintings.
Working together in a shared practice since 2004, the Calgary-based artists have developed a unique style of layering paint in clear resin, suspending narrative images of animalia in a complex allegorical dimension rich in colour, symbolism and story-telling.
Continuing the chronicles of the characters Euphoria and The Archer with interwoven references to their own contemporary culture and quotidian experiences, the artists have evolved their experimental painting practice to include large-scale mystical creatures sculpted with tactile pop materials such as synthetic fun fur, sequined cloaks and kaleidoscopic fake diamonds for eyes.
