PROGRAM ONE: Ballet Edmonton at the AGA

Note: Please see our COVID-19 protocols.

Please join us on October 14th, 15th, and 16th to see PROGRAM ONE, a site-specific dance installation presented by Ballet Edmonton at the Art Gallery of Alberta.

Ballet Edmonton opens their 2021/22 season with a new work by Artistic Director, Wen Wei Wang, to be presented live and captured on film at the Art Gallery of Alberta. This site-specific creation is inspired by the visual art featured in the gallery spaces and will take place on all three gallery levels. This collaboration will highlight the beauty of the Art Gallery and its current art installations. It will also feature some musical guest artists, including Edmonton cellist Ronda Metszies, vocalist Catherine Daniel and bassist Michael Lent to underscore the movement and contribute to the larger artistic vision of a fully integrated multidisciplinary creation. Constructed in 2010 by architect Randall Stout, the Art Gallery of Alberta is itself a work of art, and we consider the building an important part of the aesthetic of this dance piece.

The AGA is constructed to act as a conduit for human movement with its incredible central winding staircase, glass ceilings, and massive twisted steel facade meant to resemble the aurora borealis. This structure lends itself to being a participant in our creation.

Tickets to this performance are limited and should be booked in advance through the AGA website or through Ballet Edmonton. Each ticket includes general admission to the gallery so be sure to come early to explore our recently reopened exhibitions. To help us manage capacities and keep everyone safe, pre-booking is required here. Please note that masks must be worn inside the gallery at all times.
