The Art Gallery of Alberta respectfully acknowledges that we are located in Treaty 6 Territory and Region 4 of the Metis Nation of Alberta. We respect this as the traditional and contemporary  land of diverse Indigenous Peoples including the Plains Cree, Woodland Cree, Beaver Cree, Nitsitapi/Blackfoot, Métis, Nakota Sioux, Anishinaabe/Saulteaux/Ojibwe and Dene Peoples. We also acknowledge the many Indigenous, Inuit and Métis people who make Alberta their home today.

Declare your love! Join us and The Polygot on the terrace throughout the summer for a special performance series on the stage of Love Empire, an installation by Calgary artist August Klintberg.

About the Polygot: The Polyglot is a community hub, magazine, and publisher created out of an overwhelming urge to respect, promote, and celebrate heritage and Indigenous languages that are often ignored or neglected in the literary, art, and publishing worlds. Learn more.

About the Artwork: Consisting of a barebones stage, a basic PA system and a secret compartment, Love Empire creates a space for public proclamations of love, admiration, passion and emotion. This interactive installation was originally commissioned as part of the Alberta Biennial of Contemporary Art 2005 and later acquired by the National Gallery of Canada in 2007. For this special presentation on our Terrace, August Klintberg reimagines this work through a new iteration coinciding with the AGA’s 100th-anniversary celebrations.

*In the event of inclement weather, we will move all performances into the AGA.
