Gouache, India Ink, and Acrylic on BFK Paper
A formally trained artist working in Canada, Marilyn's studio practice includes painting, mixed media works on paper, sculpture, and installation, with painting as the focus. Nilsson Grabinsky describes her work as abstract, gestural, and highly textured. In all of her work, colour is important as an expressive statement, and texture invites the viewer into the space of the work. Marilyn's intention is to create images with an aura of immediacy and emotion.
Conceptually, Nilsson Grabinsky's works are driven by ideas about identity, relationships, and place; but paramount is the sheer visceral pleasure of making.
