Summary
The Arts Leadership Internship is a six-month program designed to support emerging professionals in the arts and culture sector, focusing on skill development, career growth and a strong employment pipeline for participants interested in building a leadership career in the arts. The program includes job shadowing and training, mentorship by senior leaders, access to a network of professional colleagues across the country, and tangible experience working in all departments in a collaborative environment, including museum and gallery operations, finance and administration, fund development, communications, curatorial exhibitions, curatorial collections, and education.
Reporting to the Head of Education and Learning, the Arts Leadership Intern completes a series of program targets, develops relevant skills and completes an independent project that contributes to the Art Gallery of Alberta.

Duties and Responsibilities
- Learn and understand the overall concept of the museum, including brand, goals and service
- Gain working knowledge of the Art Gallery of Alberta across departments
- Assist with research, gallery operations tasks and public engagement initiatives
- Complete an independent project during the internship
- Uphold a regularised pattern of communication with supervisor and support staff
- Complete all assignments and required readings
- Attend regular training sessions, meetings and evaluation check-ins as scheduled
- Carry out other duties as assigned
Qualifications
- Recent post-secondary graduates or individuals with related experience
- Excellent organisational and time management skills
- Flexible and able to adapt to changing circumstances
- Team player with the ability to work independently
- Commitment to equity, diversity, accessibility and inclusion
- Research and writing skills
- Proficiency with Microsoft 365 and Google Workspace platforms
- Passion for art galleries and museums
Special Requirements
- Successful completion of Police Information Check Certificate for working with vulnerable sectors.
This is a 6-month contract position beginning January 6, 2026. Working hours include weekdays and/or weekends, generally from 9am-5pm for a total of 37.5 hours per week. May be requested to work overtime and evenings.
