Boreal Barometer: The Art of Observation and Well-Being

Boreal Barometer: The Art of Observation and Well-Being presents artworks from arts students and instructors from Portage College, located in Lac La Biche, Alberta, an historically important and culturally rich community within the Natural Region of the Boreal Forest. The Boreal Forest, along with other important forest types (temperate, tropical, and boreal), plays a vital role in the health of our whole planet. Canada’s Boreal Forest is as much a green forest as it is a blue forest, with its abundance of trees, plants, and freshwater. The Boreal Forest is also one of the largest and most important carbon sinks in the world, capturing and storing a significant proportion of the earth’s carbon. With an understanding of the important role that forests and natural areas can play in our lives, with regards to good health and well-being for all levels of life, the pieces created by these artists have an authentic and intrinsic connection to the vast and nurturing Boreal Forest. The artworks in this exhibition explore a variety of art media and techniques, while drawing inspiration from and reflecting on the beautiful Boreal Forest that surrounds and nourishes our communities. - Pierre Öberg

This exhibition is presented by Portage College and the AGA Art Sales and Rental program.
