The Art Gallery of Alberta respectfully acknowledges that we are located in Treaty 6 Territory and Region 4 of the Metis Nation of Alberta. We respect this as the traditional and contemporary  land of diverse Indigenous Peoples including the Plains Cree, Woodland Cree, Beaver Cree, Nitsitapi/Blackfoot, Métis, Nakota Sioux, Anishinaabe/Saulteaux/Ojibwe and Dene Peoples. We also acknowledge the many Indigenous, Inuit and Métis people who make Alberta their home today.

Black Every Day

This page contains archived content and programming for a past exhibition.

Black Every Day is an exhibition that marks the 15th anniversary of 5 Artists 1 Love, an organization dedicated to promoting the vibrancy of Edmonton's African Canadian communities through exhibitions, music, spoken word, and performance. This exhibition speaks to the current social anti-racist movement while illustrating that local Black people have been and will continue to produce compelling art every day. 5 Artists 1 Love acknowledges that there is global action towards combating anti-Black racism and that through working together, we can learn that 'Black' is an identity and not a trend. For the past decade, 5 Artists 1 Love has engaged five artists every year to share their unique vision in an exhibition at the Art Gallery of Alberta. Although historically that art show is confined to Black History Month in February, this anniversary exhibition shows that cultural identity, history, spirit, and vision exist every day of the year.

Black Every Day is organized by the Art Gallery of Alberta and curated by Darren W. Jordan. 5 Artists 1 Love would like to thank TD Bank Group, Edmonton Community Foundation and Autism Edmonton for their support.
