Exhibition Opening | Alana Bartol and Bryce Krynski & Comic Sans

Join us on the evening of Friday, June 17 to celebrate and honour the artists and curators of Alana Bartol and Bryce Krynski: all roses sleep (inviolate light) and Comic Sans.

Members will have a preview of the exhibitions at 6pm with opening remarks to begin at 6:20pm.

The public will have access to the opening from 7:30-9pm.

About the Exhibitions

Alana Bartol and Bryce Krynski: all roses sleep (inviolate light)

all roses sleep (inviolate light) includes an olfactory video that blends how bees and humans experience and use the land around us. Shot using ultraviolet video, visitors are invited to see the prairie landscape from a bee’s point of view and a scratch and sniff card expands on the pleasant and pungent experience of pumpjacks, grazing cattle, prairie grasses and wildflowers. As the solitary bee searches and dreams of a rose, the work is meant to conjure questions about our shared future.

Organized by the Art Gallery of Alberta and curated by Lindsey Sharman. The RBC New Works Gallery features new artworks by Alberta artists and continues the Art Gallery of Alberta’s tradition of supporting and promoting Alberta artists.

Comic Sans

Contemporary Canadian comics are created without limitations of subject matter, without stylistic constraints and sometimes even without words at all. Comic Sans focuses on the limitless artistic side of Canadian comics and celebrates a broad range of approaches to storytelling. Some of the stories in Comic Sans are biographical or autobiographical, some are familiar and others have sprung from the imaginations of their creators. Comics don’t need to be constrained within the square frame of a comic panel and the work in this show expands well beyond it and even well beyond the page. Comic Sans is a celebration of the endlessly creative medium of graphic narratives. 

Comic Sans is organized by the Art Gallery of Alberta and curated by Chris Reyns-Chikuma, University of Alberta and Lindsey Sharman, Art Gallery of Alberta.
