The Art Gallery of Alberta respectfully acknowledges that we are located in Treaty 6 Territory and Region 4 of the Metis Nation of Alberta. We respect this as the traditional and contemporary  land of diverse Indigenous Peoples including the Plains Cree, Woodland Cree, Beaver Cree, Nitsitapi/Blackfoot, Métis, Nakota Sioux, Anishinaabe/Saulteaux/Ojibwe and Dene Peoples. We also acknowledge the many Indigenous, Inuit and Métis people who make Alberta their home today.

All That You Change: Poetry and Music Open Mic

“All that you touch you change. All that you change changes you. The only lasting truth is change.”

- Octavia Butler

Join us for an evening of performance and story-sharing exploring the worlds we hope to build. In the rich tradition of Afro-futurism, we want to explore the hopes and dreams we hold for our futures. Inspired by the Black Muslim Futures Zine created by Black Muslim youth and artist in February of 2021 we want to explore questions such as: “The Revolution is won, what world are we building?” and “What were our ancestor's wildest dreams?"

Doors open at 6pm, event begins at 6:30pm.

This event will consist of a showcase of featured performances, followed by an open stage for those who would like to share their poetry, stories, music, reflections and art of all mediums. In celebration of Black History Month, we encourage performers from African Caribbean and Black (ACB) communities to sign up for our open mic, and welcome community members of all backgrounds to join us in listening and reflecting. If you would like to sign up for our open mic, please fill out this form.

The Green Room and Roots on 6 in collaboration with the AGA will be hosting this event live from the AGA’s Community Gallery, featuring the visual arts and Black Creatives from the 5 Artists 1 Love exhibition.

This program is co-organized by the Education and Learning department at the AGA. If you have any questions or accessibility needs, please reach out to Michael.Magnussen@youraga.ca.
