Pastel on paper
Essential to Dean Tatam Reeves’ landscape painting is direct personal experience acquired on successive painting trips to specific sites over a period of years. Reeves’ watercolours and pastels investigate terrain unique to central and southern Alberta, including Aspen Parkland, Cooking Lake Moraine and the windswept Shortgrass Prairie stretching westward from the Cypress Hills to the Rockies. Reeves’ studio is under an open sky, wherever he plants his painting chair. Born in England, he has lived in Western Canada since 1956. After receiving a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the University of Alberta in 1978 Reeves established an ongoing art practice while serving in roles as an art educator, arts administrator and curator. His paintings are found in numerous public and corporate art collections across Canada.
