Art Gallery of Alberta Receives RBC Foundation Grant to Launch Building Arts Leaders of Tomorrow Initiative
Edmonton, AB – The Art Gallery of Alberta (AGA) is proud to announce a transformative investment from the RBC Foundation in support of a new initiative, Building Arts Leaders of Tomorrow. Their commitment through the donation of $250,000 will support the development of the next generation of leaders in Alberta’s art gallery and museum sector.
Launching in 2026, Building Arts Leaders of Tomorrow is a two-year initiative that will offer immersive mentorship, hands-on job training, and online learning opportunities. The program is designed to equip recent graduates and early-career professionals with the broad skills and practical experience needed to succeed in the art museum sector. It will prioritize individuals from underrepresented communities, including Indigenous peoples, women, newcomers, and persons with disabilities.
“This initiative is about investing in people, creating meaningful opportunities for emerging arts professionals to grow, lead, and stay rooted in Alberta’s cultural community. Thanks to RBC’s generous contribution, we will help to build a more inclusive and resilient arts sector, while strengthening the future of the arts in our province and beyond.” — Catherine Crowston, Executive Director and Chief Curator, Art Gallery of Alberta
Participants will receive mentorship in areas such as curatorial practice, art education, interpretive programming, communications, fundraising, and organizational leadership. Online modules, developed in collaboration with museum professionals, will expand access to learning opportunities for people across Canada and create lasting impact for the sector.
“We’re excited about continuing to team up with our long standing and trusted partner to bring valuable new programming that can help arts professionals,” said Jerilynn Daniels, Regional Director, Community Marketing and Citizenship, RBC Alberta & Territories. “Our intention is to help them be work ready, develop their employment pipeline, and make sure they have transferable skills.”
Building Arts Leaders of Tomorrow reflects the AGA’s commitment to supporting emerging cultural professionals and strengthening the infrastructure that drives Alberta’s creative industries. The program also aligns with RBC Future Launch, a 10-year initiative aimed at preparing Canadian youth for the jobs of tomorrow.
