We respect this as the traditional and contemporary  land of diverse Indigenous Peoples including the Plains Cree, Woodland Cree, Beaver Cree, Nitsitapi/Blackfoot, Métis, Nakota Sioux, Anishinaabe/Saulteaux/Ojibwe and Dene Peoples. We also acknowledge the many Indigenous, Inuit and Métis people who make Alberta their home today.

Uii Savage: Celestial Passage

Installation view of Uii Savage: Celestial Passage, Art Gallery of Alberta, 2023.

Uii Savage: Celestial Passage is an augmented reality that uses the AGA’s Main Hall as a simulated observation site for viewing North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) satellite data in real-time. Visitors can navigate a data portrait of orbiting traffic amongst artificially-generated angels. The work blends fantasy with reality to address globalization and the complexity of space politics. This augmented reality is superimposed onto planetary symbols fixed onto the walls of Main Hall and re-presents information to audiences while rendering visible the unseen but intensifying forces that occupy the public domain of space.

Uii Savage: Celestial Passage is organized by the Art Gallery of Alberta and curated by Lindsey Sharman.
