The Art Gallery of Alberta respectfully acknowledges that we are located in Treaty 6 Territory and Region 4 of the Metis Nation of Alberta. We respect this as the traditional and contemporary  land of diverse Indigenous Peoples including the Plains Cree, Woodland Cree, Beaver Cree, Nitsitapi/Blackfoot, Métis, Nakota Sioux, Anishinaabe/Saulteaux/Ojibwe and Dene Peoples. We also acknowledge the many Indigenous, Inuit and Métis people who make Alberta their home today.

Inheritance Exhibition Opening

Sponsored by

Join us at the Art Gallery of Alberta for a special opening event to celebrate the curators and artists of the new exhibition: Inheritance. The special Members’ Preview will take place from 6-7:30 pm with opening remarks to begin at 6:20pm. Starting at 7:30, the AGA is open to both Members and the general public.

The works in Inheritance demonstrate that events in history continue to reverberate through time, impacting both the present and future. The artists in the exhibition uncover the histories of the anti-Black racism, the KKK, the internment of Canadians of Japanese descent across western Canada and the tragedy of the Indian Residential School system, told through the artists’ research into the lives of family members and familial connections. Their works seek to hold us true to the past as the only way to move forward.

This exhibition is presented with the generous support of Capital Power as part of the Capital Powered Art program.
