June is Mitêhimin-Pîsim, the heartberry moon. In this workshop participants will create a pair of dentalium earrings with bead accents that represent the strawberry.
The dentalium shell is a white tusk shaped shell from the mollusk family of dentaliidae. They were harvested for traditional use, currency and trade. The Sioux tribes of the North American Plains have traded and used dentalium extensively throughout history, adorning capes and creating elaborate accessories. Dentalium jewelry continues to be highly valued and used as a symbol of status and wealth.
This workshop is taught by Alaynee Goodwill-Littlechild.
