John Maywood was born in England. He graduated from the Alberta College of Art in Calgary in 1974 receiving an ACA Diploma and then attended the University of Calgary and the University of Alberta in addition to studying Museum Management at Grant MacEwan College. John worked as a Botanical Artist at the University of Alberta in the Plant Science Department and the Devonian Botanic Garden. In 2003, four of his paintings of parkland landscape were shown in the exhibition Glory Hills at the Edmonton Art Gallery. John completed four artworks for the UN 2011, Year of the Forest (Out on a Limb). This exhibition travelled Alberta for two years, with its inaugural opening at the Art Gallery of Alberta in September 2010. John has worked as the Curator of the Multicultural Public Art Gallery in Stony Plain.
