Film Night | 'Charlotte' & 'Loving Vincent'

Join us on January 12th for the first Film Night of 2023 with two animated biographical films: Charlotte (a 2021 film about the German painter Charlotte Saloman), and the much-requested film Loving Vincent (a 2017 film and the first fully hand-painted film about the life and death of Dutch painter Vincent Van Gough).

We will be screening both films in our Ledcor Theatre - enjoy one film for $10 or both for $15. Members to the AGA are free.

Tickets need to be purchased online in advance of the screening.

Please note: This screening is for a mature 14A audience as the films contain war, Antisemitism, mental health, addiction, and murder.

6pm | Charlotte (2021) | 92 Minutes | Rated 14A

Charlotte is an animated drama that tells the true story of Charlotte Salomon, a young German-Jewish painter who comes of age in Berlin on the eve of the Second World War. Fiercely imaginative and deeply gifted, she dreams of becoming an artist. Directed by Éric Warin and Tahir Rana, inspired by Salomon's autobiographical painting series, Life? or Theatre?.

8pm | Loving Vincent (2017) | 95 Minutes | Rated 14A

Loving Vincent is about the life of the painter Vincent van Gogh, and the circumstances of his death. It is the first fully painted animated feature film in history, directed by Dorota Kobiela and Hugh Welchman. Each of the film's 65,000 frames is an oil painting on canvas, created using the same techniques as Van Gogh by a team of 125 artists drawn from around the globe. It won Best Animated Feature Film Award at the 30th European Film Awards and was nominated for Best Animated Feature at the 90th Academy Awards

About Film Night: Film Night is part of AGA’s public programming that highlights themes from current exhibitions or social and cultural affairs.
