The Art Gallery of Alberta respectfully acknowledges that we are located in Treaty 6 Territory and Region 4 of the Métis Nation of Alberta. We respect this as the traditional and contemporary  land of diverse Indigenous Peoples including the Plains Cree, Woodland Cree, Beaver Cree, Nitsitapi/Blackfoot, Métis, Nakota Sioux, Anishinaabe/Saulteaux/Ojibwe and Dene Peoples. We also acknowledge the many Indigenous, Inuit and Métis people who make Alberta their home today.

We join the art community in mourning the loss of Boyd Dymchuk. Boyd’s unique artistic vision and vibrant personality have left an indelible mark on the Nina Haggerty Centre for the Arts, the Art Gallery of Alberta and all who had the privilege of knowing him. Boyd Dymchuk was more than an artist; he was a friend and a storyteller who used his talents to explore and interpret the world around him. His artwork will continue to inspire joy in our community, serving as a lasting testament to his creativity, passion, and the profound impact he had on those who encountered his work. AGA curator Lindsey Sharman shares: "Working with Boyd on the exhibition Wavy Dimension was such a delight. He was a fun and funny collaborator, and I feel so lucky to have been able to get to know him and his work. He had a wonderful artistic perspective and an enviable outlook on life, and I definitely learned a lot from him that I am very grateful for. He will be very missed."

We extend our deepest condolences to Boyd's family, friends and all who were touched by his extraordinary spirit and talent. Boyd's work is featured in the exhibition Boyd Dymchuk and Aaron Harvey: Wavy Dimension, on view until October 6, 2024.
