Aabizingwashi (Wide Awake): NFB Indigenous Cinema on Tour
Throughout 2017, the National Film Board of Canada is offering the films in its exceptional collection of 250+ Indigenous-made works to all Canadians for community screenings. Your AGA is thrilled to present a special series featuring these films, organized in connection with two exhibitions of contemporary Indigenous art: Faye HeavyShield: Calling Stones (Conversations)and WordMark: A New Chapter Acquisition Project.
Marie Clement’s musical documentary, The Road Forward, explores the history of First Nation’s civil rights battles – from the beginnings of Indian Nationalism in the 1930s to the momentum of First Nation’s activism today – through exquisitely shot musical sequences, featuring some of Canada’s finest vocalists and musicians. The Road Forward is described by the National Film Board of Canada as “a rousing tribute to the fighters for First Nations rights, a soul-resounding historical experience, and a visceral call to action.”
