Le Havre (2011)

Set in the port city of Le Havre, this comedy-drama follows Marcel – an aging shoe shiner – whose life turns upside down when he hides an underage illegal immigrant from the police, implicating his friendly neighbours and fellow townspeople in the process. Amid the troubles of his own life, including his wife’s grave illness, Marcel seeks safe passage for the young boy to England, where the rest of his family awaits him.

This film is screened in connection with the exhibition Turbulent Landings: 2017 NGC Canadian Biennial.
