Teen artists, listen up! Are you interested in exploring your creativity, sharing your art with like-minded teens and winning cool prizes? Have we got an opportunity for you!

Enter our art contest by submitting up to three original pieces of artwork and then, attend our reception to share your masterpieces with friends and family in the TD Education Gallery at the Art Gallery of Alberta.

This is an open call for all artists between the ages of 13-17.

Theme: LOVE

What is LOVE exactly? According to philosophers like Plato, love can take many different forms and we want to know what love means to you. Is it the love between two people? Love for a place or hobby? Love for a pet OR love for yourself? Consider how and what you love then create an artwork or series of artworks that expresses your idea.

Any artwork submitted should connect to our theme: LOVE. Any form of art medium may be used to reflect the theme so long as it complies with museum standards*.  Please ensure that your artwork is exhibition ready, in other words, the work is ready to hang and transportable (no larger-than-life steel sculptures this time) as well as carefully labelled with Youth Art Contest, the artist (you), phone number, email, medium and title of the work.

Deadline for submission is April 5, 2019 at 5pm.

Complete the contest registration form

All artwork may be delivered to the AGA during regular Gallery hours 11-5 pm. All entries must be received by the deadline to be included in the contest (if you are mailing your entry, please ensure it arrives before the deadline). Please include your completed contest registration form with your submission (link to the pdf is above).

Prizes will be awarded for artworks that best represent our current theme, show innovation and are just plain cool! All submitted works will be juried by the Hive (the AGA’s youth council), before being displayed in the TD Education Gallery. The winner and runner up will be contacted by phone, and an announcement made on the AGA’s website and related social media.

Winning artworks and recognition may be reproduced for use on the AGA’s social media. All artworks will be displayed at our reception on Thursday April 25, 2019 at 6pm during which time prizes will be awarded and winners congratulated.

By entering the contest, the applicant agrees to and acknowledges all of the rules and conditions.

*Only submissions made of non-perishable materials will be accepted. The AGA retains the right to refuse any submission that is deemed primarily commercial in its intent, offensive and/or dangerous.
