Self_Refinery: It’s all about You

FacebookTwitterPinterestShare

The latest incarnation of Refinery: the AGA’s popular late-night art party is on Saturday, March 25. Refinery events are often the talk of the town, and the upcoming event entitled Self_Refinery is no exception. Blending themes from current exhibitions of portraiture and photography with social media and pop culture, this one really is all about you.

But “how?” you ask? Let’s take a closer look at how Self_Refinery will be customized and interactive, and why you should get your tickets before they’re gone.

Choose the Food

From expertly poured lattes to impromptu photoshoots at brunch, online photos of food and dining are ubiquitous. For the first time ever, Self_Refinery let you decide on the evening’s menu: Pretzels or sliders? Cupcakes or donuts?

Through polls on Facebook and Social Media, you decided. After a few close calls and a strong showing by the pretzel contingent, our event menu was confirmed. The winning menu items were: pierogies, pretzels and mini-donuts. Be sure to snap a photo before you snack.

Build the Soundtrack

Similar to customizing your own Spotifiy playlist, Self_Refinery is taking requests and we want to know what you want to hear on the dance floor. Perhaps it’s a Beyoncé song that gets you in the dancing mood, ABBA, or 1960s French pop—whatever it is let us know. Send in your request with #AGARefinery on Twitter and Instagram. DJ Thomas Culture will be spinning your requests all night long, so make one request or make many!

Avoid Commitment

One of the evening’s featured art activities is draw-it-yourself tattoos—temporary, of course. You can create a masterpiece for your skin without the pain or longevity of an actual tattoo.

Express Yourself

You can also share things you wish you could post to social media—anonymously—with our “Secrets and Stories” activity.

And, there are many other art activities and installations, in addition to the exhibitions in the galleries. Featured Self_Refinery artists include: Aaron Pedersen, Brittney Roy, Jason Gordon, Sergio Serrano, Tennis Club and Blush Artistry.

Share the Fun

What is a social event without the potential to incite #fomo for others who couldn’t make it? At Self_Refinery, get access to an exclusive and limited edition Snapchat filter. Or perhaps you take a moment at one of our “Selfie Stops” placed throughout the gallery—including inside our newest exhibition, The Looking Glass. Of course, any selfie expert knows that touch ups are necessary. Luckily the talented beauty artists from Blush Artistry will be on hand to provide glam touch-ups throughout the night, so all you have to do is put on your best smile and say “cheese”—#nofilter necessary.

The opportunities for interaction are endless at Self_Refinery. From interactive artist displays to the decision making before the event. Self_Refinery is really about interacting in real life with our authentic selves while also acknowledging our digital selves. Filtered or authentic—which self will you bring?

Avoid the #fomo and purchase your tickets here.

Self_Refinery is presented by Langham Development Limited.
