The Art Gallery of Alberta respectfully acknowledges that we are located in Treaty 6 Territory and Region 4 of the Metis Nation of Alberta. We respect this as the traditional and contemporary  land of diverse Indigenous Peoples including the Plains Cree, Woodland Cree, Beaver Cree, Nitsitapi/Blackfoot, Métis, Nakota Sioux, Anishinaabe/Saulteaux/Ojibwe and Dene Peoples. We also acknowledge the many Indigenous, Inuit and Métis people who make Alberta their home today.

The AGA has a long-standing partnership with 5 Artists 1 Love and proudly presents their annual showcase here at the Gallery every February for Black History Month. To celebrate this partnership, we’re highlighting their organization including some of the diverse artists and alumni they represent. Learn more about this great group at 5artists1love.com.

2020 Exhibition Launch

Here, we look back at the 5 Artists 1 Love 2020 Exhibition Launch in February. The showcase brought together five featured African-Canadian artists and displayed their unique style and vision. We look forward to their next showcase at the AGA in 2021. Follow them on social media @5artists1love for more.

5A1L Alumni Challenge

“I create art to heal myself, and in the process, I hope that it heals others.”

This summer, 5 Artists 1 Love has been sharing their #AlumniChallenge on their social platforms, featuring alumni from past showcases. You can find all their videos on their Facebook page, and watch the feature from Caribbean-Canadian artist Carla Mooking here. Carla was also presented at the AGA in February’s 5A1L showcase.
