The Art Gallery of Alberta respectfully acknowledges that we are located in Treaty 6 Territory and Region 4 of the Metis Nation of Alberta. We respect this as the traditional and contemporary  land of diverse Indigenous Peoples including the Plains Cree, Woodland Cree, Beaver Cree, Nitsitapi/Blackfoot, Métis, Nakota Sioux, Anishinaabe/Saulteaux/Ojibwe and Dene Peoples. We also acknowledge the many Indigenous, Inuit and Métis people who make Alberta their home today.

AGA is currently cultivating Artist Patrons for Li Salay, an exciting new exhibition of contemporary Métis art opening in May 2018.

Li Salay (Michif for “The Sun”) is being guest-curated for the AGA by Amy Malbeuf and Jessie Short, and will celebrate Métis history, culture and identity. The exhibition will feature some of the most important Métis artists of our time: Lori Blondeau, Katherine Boyer, Dayna Danger, Rosalie Favell, Casey Koyczan, Tim Moore, Sheri Nault, Sherry Farrell Racette, Les Ramsay, Jewel Shaw and Amanda Strong.

Significantly, Li Salay will be an opportunity for Métis artists to address their lived realities on their own terms, responding visually to the absence of Métis arts and culture within Canadian consciousness and the broader context of Indigenous art.

Becoming an Artist Patron is an important way that you can make a direct impact at your AGA! When you become an Artist Patron, you make a one-time donation that directly supports an AGA exhibition. As thanks for your contribution, there are opportunities for named recognition including on our donor wall, online, on the title wall of the exhibition, in related marketing materials and at the opening reception and related events. You will also receive a full tax receipt for your donation, and complimentary tickets to exclusive AGA events.

If you want to support the work of living Métis artists with a donation to Li Salay, please contact Megan Bertagnolli, Head, Sponsor & Donor Engagement at 780-392-2482.
