Voice of Fire II

"Voice of Fire II"

Reduction linocut.

Although each print has only four colours, each went through the press a minimum of six times, as I printed some colours more than once for maximum richness and intensity.

The image is of a coastal range in the Torngat Mountains ("Place of Spirits") in northern Labrador, where I travelled a number of times as Visiting Artist with geographers from Memorial University who were doing climate change research on the glaciers there.  The red seams in the mountains, which today are black basaltic dykes, are ancient conduits of lava and reference the volcanism as the mountains were forming.
