Jen studied at the SFU School for the Contemporary Arts in Vancouver’s downtown east side. She graduated with a BFA in Dance and has worked professionally as an independent dance artist and a touring member of Compaigni V’ni Dansi, providing educational tours in traditional Métis dance and acting in theatrical plays for young audiences designed to engage kids in Métis history. Jen views art as a tool for change and believes in its integral role as a part of Canadian cultural identity. As an educator, expression is a key focus for Jen. She believes strongly in creating a supportive environment for learning and encourages freedom to play. Jen delights in fostering young minds to develop their original state of being: creative.

Joyce has been an engaged educator for more than a decade. Initially she studied Business Management and later received her Master’s degree in Sociology. She speaks four languages and is passionate about meeting and chatting with people from different backgrounds. As an art educator at the AGA, she loves helping children, teens and adults find their inner artist. She enjoys helping people learn more about artists and their work so that they create their own unique artwork. Joyce thinks the most important thing at any given workshop is for everyone to have fun!

Kerri has been working as a teacher and facilitator for over 15 years and thrives on encouraging children and youth to engage with their curiosity in exploring Art. Furthermore, Kerri is a multi-disciplinary artist whose practice encompasses visual art installation, prose and song. She has worked across Canada, the United States and Europe. She has a Diploma in Music Theatre from Grant MacEwan, a BFA majoring in Studio Arts from Concordia University in Montreal and also studied at  École Nationale des Beaux-Arts à Lyon in France. Kerri has recently returned to her beloved native city and is thrilled to be an AGA Education team member.

As a Spanish bilingual educator working with pre-school and K-12 students, Krisna is fulfilling her dream: working creatively with children through art! An avid traveller, Krisna has taught English and art in India and Vietnam, and most recently, for several years in Spain. She is excited about art education at the AGA and delights in welcoming our youngest patrons to the wonders of art through Tours for Tots drop-in and Saturday family classes. Sparking enthusiasm and spontaneity are the core of Krisna's teaching.

Creating conversations around art and the many different ways we appreciate it is what Liam enjoys most about working at the AGA. Having signed on in October 2017, Liam comes from a background in theory, history, performance and literature. He has previous experience as a heritage interpreter at the Alberta Legislature, as well as actively runs writing workshops in the city. What interests Liam most with visual art, is its poetic potency and its ability to speak with or without words.

Maria has a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Printmaking and a minor in Native Studies as well as a Native Artisan diploma. She has worked with children and adults as an art educator and English teacher overseas and here in Edmonton for the past decade. She feels experiencing and being exposed to new ways of looking at the world around us is important for everyone, especially children. As well, learning new ways of expression through the arts can give children a healthy way of expressing themselves and can be very empowering for them. Maria hopes to give children who visit the AGA a positive and enriching experience!

Mitch has wanted to be a teacher since second grade. Every interaction with students is unique & dynamic. Teaching offers a chance to create environments cultivated for playful failure & co-operative creation. A graduate of the U of A’s combined BA Drama/BEd Secondary program, Mitchell's grateful for the chance to explore art-making, media-studies, and peer-to-peer interactions with kids.

In his spare time Mitch consumes an absurd amount of film, video games, and comics. You can hear more of him on his podcasts: WenghTalk Radio- an topic/interview based show - or We Watch Food- a food in media show.

Patrick has been with the AGA since 2013, and as a figurative realist painter and portraitist, brings his own expertise to the table. Patrick’s work has been placed in the Alberta Foundation for the Arts permanent collection as and many private collections. He has been included in the TREX, AGA/AFA touring exhibition program and celebrated his third solo exhibition late 2014. Patrick’s passion for art extends into his teaching at the AGA, and he believes in maintaining a light classroom environment that leaves room for inspiration and innovation in the moment. He believes that students should be treated as equals, and it is their engagement and enthusiasm that makes working at the AGA worthwhile.

Terrena has a BFA from the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design and her Fine Art diploma from Grant MacEwan, and has been working with the AGA as an art educator since the fall of 2015. She finds it inspiring to work in a place that is constantly immersed in creativity. Inside the AGA, she teaches with the strong belief of embracing curiousity and taking chances. She believes that is important for students to not be afraid of what they don’t know. For Terrena, introducing young people to the many things art offers is incredibly important, and seeing the artwork that emerges from her time in the studio with students is not only rewarding, but one of her favourite parts about the AGA.
