Aabizingwashi (Wide Awake): NFB Indigenous Cinema on Tour
Throughout 2017, the National Film Board of Canada is offering the films in its exceptional collection of 250+ Indigenous-made works to all Canadians for community screenings. Your AGA is thrilled to present a special series featuring these films, organized in connection with two exhibitions of contemporary Indigenous art: Faye HeavyShield: Calling Stones (Conversations) and WordMark: A New Chapter Acquisition Project.
Filmmaker Loretta Sarah Todd explores the significance of land, memory and knowledge in Kainai life as she follows the return of Kainai Blood Nation belongings that had been collected by Europeans and kept in distant museums. As the community’s elders examine the objects and share stories, they reveal how the rich threads of Kainai life thrive from one generation to the next.
This film is screened in connection with Faye HeavyShield: Calling Stones (Conversations).
